What to Wear.. to a Fashion Interview

What look would you wear to a fashion interview?

One of the most nerve-wracking things that any of us can go through is a job interview. How to act what to say do I smile or laugh or remain serious???!!! Too many things going through our heads, and then on top of that stress is always the big question WHAT DO I WEAR???!! Well, since all three of us at Stylist Cubed are currently working in fashion we decided to give you our favorite interview outfits for job interviews in the fashion industry. All three are so different so in fact you could use all of them for different companies. We got our favorite California girl Mimi to model our looks for us!! Enjoy and vote for your favorite one!

Sasha’s Look

“Style is a simple way of saying complicated things.”

This is a simple, classy and put together look that says, I’m fashionable, chic, up to date, and can run around the city all day. Fashion is not as glam as everyone thinks it is, especially when you work in PR like I do. You are on your feet all day, running around to and from shoots and making sure Grace Coddington has 10 gold bracelets not 8. (LOL). I decided to dress Mimi in an outfit that showed fashion and realism of the job all in one. Peplum waist lines and leather are both huge trends of the moment and so I paired this peplum leather top with simple skinny black jeans for a sleek and modern silhouette. The Office driving boots I selected are great, they are really comfortable, go with everything and have a chunky 3.5″ heel. I decided to add some cute and flirty crystal neon earrings to show some color and personality into the outfit. The statement piece of this look is this AMAZING Burberry trench coat. Perfect length, perfect stone color and perfect leather detailing. It brings the look together, and makes Mimi look cool and polished all at the same time. If you really want to rock a fashion interview this is the perfect look for you!

“Wherever you go, make sure you get there in style”

I am in love with my inspiration quote today and I am completely agree with it, especially if you going to an interview at a fashion company. I know it is a fashion world but I don’t want to go overboard like “I just walked out of the runway” (that could wait until you got the job lol) but at the same time, not too formal as well. They need to know who you are and that you actually into fashion. So I give Mimi a grey shirt with flow-ey detailed button-front and instead of putting regular blazer over it, I reach for a white vest with sheer detail instead. Showing a little bit of creativity couldn’t hurt, right? My focal point of this look is definitely the upper part, so I keep it simple on the bottom with black bandage skirt that fit Mimi perfectly. Neutral or black bag is a classic for an interview but with this metal parts, it spices the entire look up a notch. If that’s not enough instead of this black pumps, you could never go wrong with pointy toe heels. Now that you look professionally stylish, it’s time to nail that interview of yours! Wear you best confidence and Good Luck 😉

“A woman can be overdressed but never over elegant”

When looking at Mimi’s look you might think: why would someone be overdressed like this for an interview? Because this is not just ANY interview, this is a fashion interview! And some companies like Dior or Miu-Miu requires their employees to dress up like they are about to go to the fanciest party everyday. When interviewing for those companies, you wanna look your best, which involves showing your knowledge of the brand and if possible, wearing items from brand. In this look, Mimi is elegant, classy and refined. The fashionable detail is of course the gold CHANEL bag, which will be immediately noticed by your interviewer (you would preferably wanna wear it for an interview at CHANEL for example). High heels are mandatory in case of a fashion interview: you want to elongate and refine your silhouette to appear unreachable but smart. And needless to say, in the fashion world, even for an analytical or financial position, physical appearance DO count (sad I know) – so always be aware of this and

How to Wear … An Oversized White Shirt

An oversized white shirt is a sexy addition to any girls’ wardrobe. It looks like you spent the night at your boyfriend’s place and wore it to change up yesterdays’ outfit. Its not only sexy, but also classic and versatile. The problem is that it can sometimes be tough to come up with new and interesting ways to wear it. Most girls wear their favorite oversized white shirt with black leggings and ballet flats or over the knee boots. Cute, but a bit boring and unoriginal. So we decided to come up with three different ways to wear it. Mary from Paris was kind enough to model our looks for us. We love her long reddish brown hair and super long legs! Vote for your favorite look!

“Like a girl gone wild, a good girl gone wild”

Wow, my outfit really looks like an advert for Urban Outfitters! Super unintentional! Although everything from there is so cute and wearable so I’m not that sorry! Anyway, my look for Mary is a bit kinky. The over the knee socks and bralette are pretty racey teamed together, especially with the sky high heels that I put her in! At first I got ALOT of complaints from our lovely but opinionated model. But after a few minutes of checking herself out she realized that she was in the perfect going out outfit. There isn’t actually that much skin on show. The little bit of thigh and tiny midriff make a new and funky way of showing a bit of flesh on a night out. The skirt I chose for this outfit is amazing. Its a super soft velvet, and the round skater shape makes the outfit flirty. I didn’t want to have too much jewelry so chose a statement necklace and a simple watch. Adding an oversized white shirt over the top makes the outfit chilled, with an ‘I don’t really give a **** attitude’. I really feel this is a great way to wear an oversized white shirt. Not many people use this item in their wardrobe as a sexy going out outfit, which is such a waste. Hopefully Mary wears this out soon because she looks awesome!!

“Fashion fade, Style is eternal”

If you see me walking down the street, this is probably what you would see me in. Oversized white shirt is an essential to my wardrobe. I wear it to every place from fancy night out to regular day at work/class and I’ve got tons of them! Here is the simplest version of what I usually wear and I think it looks good on Mary too. I gave her navy printed cropped trouser because navy and white always look classy together. To pop some color into the outfit, I add orange lip, orange clutches and orange heels. Man! that’s a lot of orange. You could go by without any accessory and let the shirt be the centered-piece but today I don’t want it to be lonely so I give it a metal necklace as a company. Now we could grab coffee, go for a walk in the park, or just chill with my special guest model “Milo” the cat. Isn’t he so cute in this pic?????

“Fashion is not only to make women more beautiful, but also to reassure them, give them confidence”

It’s not because you’re wearing men’s oversized shirt that you cannot be feminine. Through Mary’s style, I wanted to prove this point. Accessorizing the oversized shirt with a black short renders it girly, sexy and smart at the same time – the look being a total throwback to Britney Spears in “Baby One More Time” haha. Privileging nude legs over tights give a provocative feel to the outfit, which is being de-emphasized  by the traditional black waist coat. The beanie renders the overall look more edgy while the  Muse oversized suede bag brings some class to the mix. What I like about this look is that it can be worn on multiple occasions, at work or school with black tights for example, at a party or for a dinner with friends. This look screams sexy & smart while being simple and easy to put together.

What to Wear.. to an NYU SCPS Party (Men Version)

howto, party, men

Will we see you in any of these looks at the party?

In collaboration with NYU’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies, we are happy to bring you today a ‘What to Wear’ special post for their annual end of year Holiday Party!! We already, did three great party outfits with our fantastic model Renata, so ladies please check that post out for some great ideas for the party. However, for all the guys out there who don’t want to just wear the same suit over again, we have got three fun and different party outfits for you to take inspiration from! Modeling today, is Glenn from Singapore. We had loads of fun raiding his closet, and picking out three unique looks just for you! Enjoy, and we hope to see you in your best outfits next week!

Sasha’s Look

“Wearing a bow tie is a statement. Almost an act of defiance”

Glenn has a personality, he’s loud and funny and everyone knows who he is. He’s a cool guy but can also be old fashioned at times. His outfit for the NYU SCPS party reflects this. It’s old school vs new school, it’s loud, it’s festive and he’s definitely going to attract a lot of attention (which he’ll love). I’ve paired a deep burgundy velvet blazer and a skinny bow tie with a beanie and black leather sneakers for a current and up to day look on a classicly british cocktail party look. His skinny black trousers and fitted white shirt are the perfect canvases for this combination, and he looks sleek and polished, ready for a night out on the town!

“Dress up your sportswear and dress down your formal wear”

I’ve been wanting to do a makeover for Glenn for ages and now today I finally got the chance! I always see him in sleek with a twist of hipster-ness look. So I want to give him something I’ve never seen him in before. I love to layer different pieces and texture together and I did exactly that for Glenn. Layered him up in formal blazer and sweater is an easy way to tone down any look, yet still stylist. To add to a rustic feel, I throw in the Timberland boots. I want the look to be comfortable, breathable and warmth, so I go with the beige and earthy tone. I know this is for a party, so if you feel like this style is too grudge-y for you, you can change it up with a slim khaki, cut short that would show off your colorful socks or a pair of roll-up jeans. Nothing like earth tones and denim together for a crisp look!

“Fashion is a constant challenge to balance comfort with luxe, the practical with the desirable.”

Glenn is the king of NYU SCPS. He notices everyone and likes to be noticed in return. Kings have to wear studs! Or crowns haha. Glenn has a thin and fit silhouette, therefore using slim cuts for blazers combined with skinny jeans emphasize his body shape and give him a “sculpted” aspect. To dress down the blazer, I decided to use ripped blue skinny jeans. I am a big fan of ripped jeans as they never go out of fashion and can be worn with everything. Styling ripped jeans with a blazer like for Glenn makes them look chic and cool; assorting them with a hoodie or tee-shirt makes them look hipsterish. The white and blue shirt contrasts nicely with the blazer to give Glenn a more casual yet trendy look. The whole idea was for Glenn to look effortlessly chic for the party while standing out from the crowd!

Today I’m Wearing.. Fusion of Several Car Coats

coat mm6

I’m in love with Men’s clothes, is that crazy? I’ve been purchasing these menswear a lot lately which is kinda weird because that is not usually the case. My style has changed and transformed A LOT since I intern at 3.1 Phillip Lim. It is amazing how a place where you work has so much influence on you. Ok you might think, “Big deal!” but here is another reason to believe me: I just chopped off my beloved hair that I have been growing since… forever. This is all happens after I start working there. And I’m definitely not complaining.

Ok, enough about that and back to my love at first sight. I walked into H&M one day out of boredom and didn’t really looking to buy anything but something magical happened. It is love at first sight when I laid eyes on this MM6 for H&M coat. I went to the women section but nothing really caught my eyes but when I glided over to men section, this coat is actually screaming my name!!! I love how rustic and retro it looks. The style description on the tag said “Fusion of several car coats”, it is a re-edition of MM6 from various seasons and this one is Spring-Summer 2004. How could I resist that??? I love these little attention to details, it give clothes so much more meaning. This coat is exactly what I’ve been subconsciously looking for: oversized and unique with a vintage element. It can go with basically everything in my closet. But beware! oversized men’s coat is not for everyone, so I suggest trying it on before you swipe your credit card, just to be safe!

Today I’m Wearing.. Simple and Masculine

torpad dec3

Before the real Winter comes..

Ok this is exciting and a bit nerve-wracking because Sasha came up with an idea for us 3 to post our own everyday look. So you will be seeing a lot of us this week. It is one thing to dress others but ourself!! hmm.. that’s another level for me but anyhow, i will do my best : )

So what I have on today is just simple pieces that I put together. I love clothes that have a good but unique cut (and a bit masculine). My white Uniqlo shirt is oversized because it’s Mens and I pair it with navy flared 3.1 Phillip Lim shorts that look like a skirt to give some character to the look and not too stiff when I put on my favorite long black Uniqlo coat. The weather is quite nice today, so I can get by with a lighter coat, yayy!! I want to keep it tone down color-wise, so I throw in white 31 Hour bag and a black patented H&M oxford because I want the different texture to stand out from my black tight. Aiming for simple but stylish look, do you guys think I achieve it?

Hello and welcome to our world: The Cube!

3 Fashion Girls, 1 Big City, and countless amounts of ‘What do I wear?!’ texts led to a Corona filled night at raunchy downtown club, The Box where ‘Stylist Cubed’ was born! We are adopted Gothamists, coming from Bangkok, Paris and London – Owen Wilson called us the United Colors of Benetton at a vodka fueled night at Kenmare (RIP, you are missed). God knows how we all get along! But we do have one common love: Fashion. We spend our days working at 3.1 Phillip Lim, CHANEL and Saint Laurent, and our nights searching for different and cool restaurants and bars.We have fun, and love our lives even though we look different, dress different and definitely act different (although we all get hit on by the same weirdos, but that’s NYC).

We live in a weird and wonderful world which we have called The Cube, and we would like to invite you to come inside, check out our lives and see if you find our outfits interesting. Got an OkCupid date? We’ve been there, oh we’ve been there, and know exactly what to wear. Fashion interview? Follow our style tips to name it. And if you’ve been lusting after following the leather trend but don’t know how to avoid looking like a dominatrix biker, let us guide you in the right direction!

Check back soon for a new post with three unique takes on an event orientated outfit! And for now, strap on those stilettos and have fun!
